Change video speed for loops

Speed up or slow down a video in your browser, from 0.25x slow motion to 4x fast forward. Free, no sign-up, MP4 download.

Upload a video to change speed
MP4, MOV, or WebM. Up to 5 minutes and 300MB.

How to speed up or slow down a video

1. Choose an MP4, MOV or WebM clip of up to 300MB and 5 minutes.
2. Set Speed between 0.25x and 4x; the arrows move in steps of 0.25. Values below 1 slow the clip down, values above 1 speed it up, and 1x keeps the original timing.
3. Select Change speed, preview the MP4 and download it. The whole clip changes by the same factor; there are no speed ramps or partial ranges.

What to use a speed change for

Slow motion

0.5x or 0.25x for water, sport, hair and fabric movement, or a product reveal.

Time-lapse and fast forward

2x to 4x compresses a long process, such as a drawing, a recipe or a setup, into a short clip.

Fit a time slot

Stretch or shorten a clip to fill a Story, an ad slot or a presentation without cutting any footage.

Calmer backgrounds

Slowing ambient footage makes a background feel calmer and longer before it repeats. See how to make a video longer.

Speed and duration

The new duration is the original duration divided by the speed. For a 10-second clip:

Speed10-second clip becomesTypical use
0.25x40 secondsExtreme slow motion; can look choppy
0.5x20 secondsSlow motion, calm backgrounds
0.75xAbout 13.3 secondsA gentle slow-down
1.25x8 secondsTighter demos and walkthroughs
1.5xAbout 6.7 secondsFaster tutorials
2x5 secondsFast forward
4x2.5 secondsTime-lapse style

What happens to sound and smoothness

Audio

Sound speeds up or slows down with the picture, using a tempo change that keeps the pitch roughly the same. If the clip has no audio track or the audio cannot be processed, the result is exported without sound.

Slow-motion smoothness

The tool stretches the existing frames; it does not invent new in-between frames. Footage filmed at 24 or 30 FPS can look choppy at 0.5x or below, while 60 FPS or high-speed footage slows down more smoothly.

Get the timing right, then loop it

If the clip will play on repeat, as a background or a Story, make it loop seamlessly with AI on the LoopVideo homepage once the timing feels right. AI requires sign-in, and email accounts must be verified. The one-time free trial adds a visible LoopVideo watermark, and one paid credit gives a watermark-free result.

Speeding a clip up before you convert it to a GIF also means fewer frames and a smaller file. To play the clip backwards, use reverse video.

FAQ

Can I slow down a video?

Yes. Set a speed below 1x. At 0.5x the clip lasts twice as long, and at 0.25x, the slowest setting, four times as long.

Can I speed up a video?

Yes. Set a speed above 1x, up to 4x. At 4x the clip lasts a quarter of its original time.

Does changing speed change the pitch of the audio?

The audio tempo changes with the picture while the pitch stays roughly the same, so voices do not turn high or deep. If audio processing fails, for example because the clip has no sound track, the MP4 is exported without audio.

Can I change the speed of only part of a clip?

No. The whole clip changes by the same factor; there are no speed ramps or ranges. Cut the part you need in a video editor first.

Why does my slow-motion clip look choppy?

Slowing down stretches the frames you already have instead of creating new ones. Clips filmed at 24 or 30 FPS show this at 0.5x and below; footage filmed at 60 FPS or higher slows down more smoothly.

Can AI make the result loop?

Yes, as a separate step. Download the result and open the AI seamless loop on the LoopVideo homepage. It generates a transition from the end of the clip back to the start. AI requires sign-in, and the free trial result has a visible watermark.

What are the limits, and is it free?

Inputs can be up to 300MB and 5 minutes, with a performance warning above 100MB or 60 seconds. Changing speed is free, needs no login or credits, and runs in your browser without uploading the video.
